Fairfield American Little League Challenger Baseball

Mid-April – Mid June.  The Challenger Division is Little League’s adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Any individual between the ages of 4 and 18 (or up to 22 years old if they are still enrolled in school) with a physical or intellectual challenge is welcome to participate. The division is open to players whose families live in Fairfield, Westport, and Bridgeport, Monroe, Trumbull or any surrounding town that might not have a team.

Little League – and Fairfield American – believe that if an individual can participate in the traditional Little League Baseball or Softball program with reasonable accommodations they should do so. However, the Challenger Division provides another option for boys and girls to get on the field to…PLAY BALL!!!  Contact:

Special Olympics Swimming & Programs  – Westport YMCA

The Aquatics Team is in the final stretch of the season and coming up on the Summer Games! The Summer Games are in June, and our athletes practice every Sunday afternoon to prepare.

We are planning to add Special Olympics programming at the YMCA this fall. At this point, the conversation is leading us to add a basketball program. If you are interested in participating, or if you have other suggestions about what we should offer, please contact Jay Jaronko at 203-226-8983 or

Equestrian Program Therapeutic Riding — The Pilot House

Therapeutic riding and Equine activities have proven to be rewarding for children/young adults with special needs.  Research shows that these individuals who participate in these activities experience physical and emotional rewards.  Riding a horse rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, so riders show improvement in flexibility, balance, muscle strength and breathing.  Equine activities encourage a relationship with the horse, increases self esteem, confidence and patience. As the rider sits on top of the horse he/she has a new view of the world around them.  Each session consists of 6 weeks of 1/2 hour lessons.  Ages 5-25+

Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.  Fairfield Ludlow High, Fairfield Warde High, Roger Ludlow Middle, Fairfield Woods and Tomlinson all have Unified Sports programs.
