The Aquatics Team is in the final stretch of the season and coming up on the Summer Games! The Summer Games are in June, and our athletes practice every Sunday afternoon to prepare.
We are planning to add Special Olympics programming at the YMCA this fall. At this point, the conversation is leading us to add a basketball program. If you are interested in participating, or if you have other suggestions about what we should offer, please contact Jay Jaronko at 203-226-8983 or email@example.com.
Equestrian Program Therapeutic Riding — The Pilot House
Therapeutic riding and Equine activities have proven to be rewarding for children/young adults with special needs. Research shows that these individuals who participate in these activities experience physical and emotional rewards. Riding a horse rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, so riders show improvement in flexibility, balance, muscle strength and breathing. Equine activities encourage a relationship with the horse, increases self esteem, confidence and patience. As the rider sits on top of the horse he/she has a new view of the world around them. Each session consists of 6 weeks of 1/2 hour lessons. Ages 5-25+
Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Fairfield Ludlow High, Fairfield Warde High, Roger Ludlow Middle, Fairfield Woods and Tomlinson all have Unified Sports programs.
